The theme of Thundering Zeus has to do with the Greek god with the same name and with the rest of the deities that this ancient civilization worshipped. While the theme is a respectable one, and there are plenty of titles out there that did a good job at it, it's not the case here. The graphics are rather poor and while some of the symbols do look good, others simply take down the design a notch or two. The reels are encased in a temple of the Greeks, with classic columns of stone that are beautifully decorated, with leaves used as support for the payline wagers. Part of the problem would be the playing cards that are designed to look like parts of colored stone walls that were taken out and still have ragged edges. The other symbols give us a few of the deities (Zeus, Aphrodite, Dionysus) that have a very basic design, plus some better looking images of harps, thunder logo and amphora.

The game will allow for up to 10 coins to be used on each line that gets a wager and the player can also modify the coin denomination in the $0.02 to $1 range. With wagers of up to $10 per line, the player can win up to $100,000. If all the lines are selected the payouts go as high as $200.

The Zeus symbol acts as a wild and in this case it does a few extra things for the player. Besides substituting for other symbols and getting you the extra combinations and payouts, the wild will award the player 3 spins for free. That is usually a job for a scatter symbol, but here you get it when the 3rd reel has the wild symbol on it. Combinations of up to five wilds will award you the top jackpot as well, so this is the most important symbol available.

The other feature is the lightning logo placed on a gold coin. If it appears on the middle three reels (2-4) it starts up the bonus game. In this bonus game you have to pick various lightning logos until you have two that match. The reward is 5 to 15 spins with 2x multipliers or 20 spins with 3x multipliers.

Thundering Zeus may disappoint with its graphics but will make up for it with its features and especially the potential of getting free spins through multiple methods.
